The National Cyber Security Centre Annual Report
Highlighting the critical need for all organisations to incorporate cyber security into their business strategies.
This week, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) released its annual report, which highlights the key achievements and milestones in cyber security over the past year while addressing future challenges.
The NCSC, a part of GCHQ, is the UK’s technical authority for cyber security. Since its establishment in 2016, it has aimed to make the UK the safest place to live and work online, providing clarity and insight in an increasingly complex digital landscape.
Report Highlights
The 2024 report emphasises the importance of digital technology in driving growth, innovation, productivity, improved public services, and overall prosperity for organizations and businesses.
However, it also warns of ongoing threats from hostile states and cybercriminals seeking to exploit our reliance on technology, which underpins all aspects of modern life. From ransomware attacks to AI-enabled intrusions, malicious actors are intensifying their disruptive efforts in a more interconnected world.
The report underscores the critical need for all organisations to incorporate cyber security into their business strategies.
Dr Richard Horne, CEO of the NCSC, stated, “We need all organisations—public or private—to view cyber security not only as an essential foundation for their operations but also as a driver for growth. Cyber security should not be regarded as just a ‘necessary evil’ or compliance function; it is a business investment, a catalyst for innovation, and an integral part of achieving their objectives.”
Additionally, the report highlights the advantages of implementing security measures. Research from insurers indicates that organisations are 92% less likely to file a claim on their cyber insurance if they have established security controls, such as Cyber Essentials.
